As a "Research University/Very High Research Activity (RU/VH)," Tufts is committed to supporting a dynamic research environment on all of its campuses and in every department. In the School of Arts and Sciences, faculty are expected to maintain active research agendas throughout their careers. Producing books, compositions and articles; pursuing grants; and engaging with professional colleagues are all central to a healthy research profile.
Faculty scholarship invigorates teaching and fosters a lively intellectual climate on campus. Collaborative faculty-student research projects are strongly supported through various programs and curricular initiatives. Undergraduates are encouraged to write senior honors theses, and graduate students work closely with faculty mentors on their own research. Tufts sponsors annual fora that allow faculty and students to share their work with the community.
