Housing Assistance for New Faculty
The School of Arts & Sciences and the School of Engineering provide a number of resources to assist new faculty at Tufts with finding housing:
FACULTY TRANSITIONAL HOUSING PROGRAM
The purpose of this transitional housing program is to help incoming faculty find a place to live for the first few years that they are at Tufts, until they have had a chance to become familiar with the area and make decisions about where they want to live on a more long-term basis. Incoming faculty for September 2007 have the possibility of renting a unit for up to three years. The rents are market-rate.
The Program consists of a small number of units, owned by Walnut Hill Properties, to be rented by incoming faculty. Some are one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments in the newly renovated Hillside School Apartments. Others are two- or three-bedroom apartments in wood-frame houses. All are within easy walking distance of campus.
Interested faculty should get in touch with Dr. Margery Davies, Director of the AS&E Office of Diversity Education and Development (margery.davies@tufts.edu; 617-627-3385), for more information.
OFF CAMPUS HOUSING OFFICE
The Off Campus Housing Office at Tufts is available to students, faculty, staff, and alumni. The best way to get a sense of what they have to offer is to go to their website at http://ase.tufts.edu/och. There you will find current listings of apartments and houses to rent (updated daily) as well as other information of interest to potential renters (typical rents, rights and responsibilities of renters; area resources, etc.).
If you would like to call the Off Campus Housing Office directly, either before or after checking out the website, the number is 617-627-5319.
WALNUT HILL PROPERTIES
Walnut Hill Properties is a separate corporation, owned by the university, which manages its real estate. You are welcome to call them directly at 781-391-5300, to see what other listings they may have available, in addition to the units in the Faculty Transitional Housing Program.
MORTGAGE SERVICE PROGRAM
For people who are interested in purchasing a home, Tufts offers the benefit of a Mortgage Service Program, which is provided to Tufts employees by Professional Advantage Financial Group. For further information, please contact the company directly at 800-809-5626 or on-line at http://www.proadvantage.com.
