AS&E Diversity Fund
The Arts, Sciences and Engineering Diversity Fund is money allocated within the AS&E budget to devote to issues and needs relating to diversity at Tufts. Funding for projects and programming that will increase the diversity of our community is not limited to the Diversity Fund, but it is an important part of our efforts. Each year, a general call is sent out to the AS&E community for proposals to be submitted to the Diversity Fund Advisory Committee. This committee is composed of faculty and staff, who review the proposals and make recommendations to the deans of the two schools - Robert Sternberg, Dean of the School of Arts and Sciences, and Linda Abriola, Dean of the School of Engineering. Over the past years, the Diversity Fund has received many exciting proposals from a wide range of departments, programs, offices and groups, many of which have been funded. It is intended that the Diversity Fund be spent in ways that will have the greatest potential for long-lasting positive effect on the Tufts community, and in ways that bring different groups together. To date much of the funding has been devoted to enhancing our efforts to recruit an increasingly diverse student body, additional support for the culture centers, programming intended to help to foster education and dialogue about diversity issues, curricular development/transformation initiatives, and faculty development. There are two funding cycles for the Diversity Fund, one in the Fall and one in the Spring. In the Spring semester, a call for proposals for projects/events for the upcoming academic year is sent out to the AS&E community, and most of the funding is allocated. A secondary call for proposals is sent out in the Fall semester for projects/events for the upcoming Spring semester. The Diversity Fund is administered by the AS&E Office of Diversity Education and Development. For more information about the Diversity Fund, please get in touch with Margery Davies, Director of the AS&E Diversity Office (X73385 or margery.davies@tufts.edu).
