Core Curriculum – New Track System
In order to provide students with a curriculum that better matches the current state of the
discipline; increase the depth of the curriculum; synergize with existing
strengths within the university (departments and programs); and encourage
students with diverse first majors to co-major with Environmental Studies, the
ENVS major requires five core courses.
- Environmental Biology (ENV 007/Bio 007)*
- Environmental Geology (EOS 002; Spring) or
Environmental Chemistry (CHEM 008; Spring, alternate years)**
- Environment and Technology (ES 025; Fall) or
Appropriate
Technology in Sustainable Engineering (ES 060; Summer, Talloire)
- Principles of Economics with Environmental Applications (EC 008; Spring) or
Principles of Economics (EC 005; Fall), with permission
- Environmental Policy in the US (PS 194; Fall) or
Environmental Policy, Planning and Politics (UEP 094; Fall/Spring)
*Biology Majors may substitute BIO 142 or BIO 144
**Chemistry Majors must take EOS 2
In addition to this core of five courses, students will complete
a specialized track consisting of an additional five courses.
Track I: Environmental Science
Track II: Sustainability, Policy, and Equity
Track III: Environmental Communication
Track IV: Food Systems and the Environment
Track V: Self-Designed with Advisor
