Spring 2012 Sunday Community Concerts

Join us on Sunday afternoons for a series of special community music concerts. These concerts feature some of the best musicians of the department and area community. Most of these performances are free and do not require tickets . For further information, call the box office at 617.627.3679.

Concerts are free unless noted in their description.  Program information is subject to change.

Classically Romantic

Join performance faculty members Sarita Uranovsky, violin, and Hisako Hiratsuka, piano, for a classically romantic Sunday afternoon, with a program including works by Beethoven, Brahms, and Franck.

Brahms and His Circle

Performance faculty member Scott Woolweaver, viola, and colleague Frank Glazer, piano, perform the two Sonatas, Op. 120, for viola and piano, by Johannes Brahms. Works by Brahms's friends Robert Schumann and Heinreich von Herzogenberg will also be performed.

Ehrenreich, Stumpf, & Patterson
Performance faculty member and soprano Andrea Ehrenreich presents an all German voice recital with fellow performance faculty colleagues Thomas Stumpf, pianist, and David Patterson, guitar. Music by Schubert, Schumann, Brahms, and Wolf will be performed.

Performance faculty members Jane Hershey and Frances Fitch perform music for viola da gamba and harpsichord, including works by Frescobaldi, Ortiz, Marais, and Bach.

Festival of Russian Music

Come see an exciting combination of East European classical and folk music performed by musicians from the area as well as our very own Tufts students. The festival will be followed by a reception at the Russian House (101 Talbot Avenue).

Agbadza and Missa in tempore belli
Tufts Concert Choir and Chamber Singers (Jamie Kirsch, conductor) and Kiniwe (Nani Agbeli, director) present Agbadza, a performance of traditional Ewe music from Ghana and Togo. Tufts choruses will also join members of the Tufts Symphony Orchestra for Haydn's powerful Missa in tempore belli (Mass in Time of War).

Tufts Takht

Tufts Takht, the Arabic Music Ensemble, performs instrumental and vocal music from the Near East, Turkey, and North Africa.

SUNDAY, MAY 6, 3:00 PM
Sunday at Tufts - Community Concert Series
Fusion: The World in American Music

Pianists Susan Grace and Alice Rybak bring together two distinguished careers. As Quattro Mani, they share a special interest in the vast repertoire for two pianos and the unique collaboration involved in its performance. This program presents American works influenced by music from around the globe: from the Latin beats of Bolcom's Recuerdos to the Armenian Kanoon orchestra of Hovhaness, the magic of the Balinese Gamelan, and the cotton mill blues of Rzewski.
