Housing Assistance for Faculty
This program helps full-time faculty in Arts & Sciences and Engineering find a place to live until they become familiar with the area and can make more informed decisions about where to live.
Walnut Hill Properties
Walnut Hill Properties, a non-profit company owned by Tufts University, manages several rental apartments on and near the Medford/Somerville campus. Two programs assist Tufts faculty and staff with housing: Transitional Housing and Wood-frame Housing.
This program helps full-time faculty in Arts & Sciences and Engineering find a place to live until they become familiar with the area and can make more informed decisions about where to live. Incoming full-time faculty may rent for up to three years one of nine units in the renovated Hillside School Apartments, if units are available. The units are one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments.
Other apartments managed by Walnut Hill Properties consist of two- or three-bedroom apartments in wood-frame houses. These houses typically contain two or three apartments, which Walnut Hill rents primarily to Tufts faculty, staff, and graduate students. All are within easy walking distance of campus. For more information, interested faculty should contact Anne Fernald, Operations Manager at Walnut Hill at 781-391-5300.
Off-Campus Housing Resource Center
The Off-Campus Housing Resource Center at Tufts is designed for students, but faculty are welcome to access it as well. Visit the Off-Campus Housing Resource Center website for a list of local realtors, online rental/real estate listings, and other resources for renters (typical rents, rights and responsibilities of renters, area resources, etc.).
Tufts offers a range of relocation services: arrangements with moving companies that offer preferential services and rates; assistance with rentals and purchases; and mortgage service programs. Tufts-approved vendors include Olympia Moving and Storage, Personal Movers, Sterling Movers, and Coldwell Banker Relocation Services. For more information, contact Maria Tripodi, Faculty Affairs Officer at 617-627-3092.
