Landscape Ecology

Habitat loss and fragmentation are the primary causes of species extinction worldwide. I currently have research projects related to suburban and urban sprawl, and on the effects of forestry practices.

I recently had a PhD student (Brian Tavernia) complete his research on the effects of urbanization and suburban sprawl on wetland birds in the Greater Boston Area. I also have a student currently working on the effects of habitat fragmentation on site occupancy and abundance, focusing mostly on grassland birds.
