Margaret Henderson Floyd Lecture with Professor Christy Anderson, University of Toronto "Building Castles on the Sea"

Thursday, February 20, 2020 - 6:00pm

Feb 20, 2020, 6 – 7:30pm EST

The 15th annual Margaret Henderson Floyd Memorial Lecture is pleased to host renowned architectural historian Professor Christy Anderson for a lecture entitled "Building Castles on the Sea." As the predominant technological and artistic wonders of their day, ships projected monarchical power beyond the land's, and the nation's, fixed territories. As such, these floating castles were the subject of not only technological, but also artistic, innovation. Through an analysis of these architectural surrogates, Professor Anderson examines the productive overlaps and competing claims that held between technology and art during the early-modern period.
