"Star Brother: Kinstillatory Praxis in Contemporary Indigenous Art", Joseph Pierce, Cherokee Nation Citizen, Associate Professor, Stony Brook University
Apr 20, 2021, 3:30 – 4:30pm EDT
How do we relate to the stars as kin? How do we star like them? Drawing on contemporary Indigenous art, this presentation argues that the work of relating to the celestial, what Karyn Recollet calls kinstillatory praxis, offers routes of belonging that expand beyond the limits of colonial normativity.
