[STS Lunch Seminar] Police Terror and Securitizing the Air // Jack Leff

Friday, September 25, 2020 - 12:00pm

Sep 25, 2020, 12 – 1:15pm EDT

When we think of police tactics, we tend to think boots on the ground––not terror from the air. Yet, increasingly, police are utilizing airborne weaponry like tear gas, drones, long-range acoustic devices, and even the pandemic to punish political activists. Drawing from his own experiences as a political organizer, as well as from STS scholarship, Jack Leff (Virginia Tech STS) will discuss some of the history and implications of state-sponsored atmospheric violence.
