Tisch College Distinguished Speaker Series: Hank Azaria

Thursday, November 19, 2020 - 5:30pm

Thursday, November 19 | 5:30 PM ET | Virtual Event

Join Tisch College for a conversation about art, activism, representation, and recovery with Hank Azaria, A87. A Tony Award nominee, six-time Emmy Award winner, and Tufts Jumbo, Azaria is one of the most sought-after performers today as well as a respected director, comedian, and producer. He has starred in films like “The Birdcage,” “Quiz Show,” “Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian,” “The Smurfs,” and “Mystery Men,” and he has won many accolades for his TV work in shows like “Huff,” “Ray Donovan,” and his current series “Brockmire.” Azaria is perhaps best known for his two-decade run on “The Simpsons,” for which he has voiced dozens of characters, notably Apu, a role Azaria chose to stop voicing following robust public debate about stereotypes and representation.

Azaria is the co-founder of the educational nonprofit Determined to Succeed, which focuses on low socio-economic students in middle and high school. In addition, he sits on the Board for DREAM School, an education nonprofit operating transformational community schools in East Harlem and the South Bronx. Azaria also helped to bring The Haven for drug and alcohol recovery to the Tufts campus. He was awarded an honorary degree from Tufts University in 2016.

This event is sponsored by Tisch College, JumboVote, Office of the Boards of Advisors, the School of Arts & Sciences, the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute, and Tufts Health & Wellness.
