Careers and Alumni Networking

The International Relations major at Tufts University provides students with a multi-dimensional liberal arts education that prepares them to be successful in a broad range of careers. A degree in International Relations will prepare students for a career in the government, the Foreign Service, federal agencies, NGO's, humanitarian aid, consulting firms, international business, multinational corporations, and more. In order to better prepare students to achieve their post-graduate career goals, the International Relations Program and Tufts University offers a number of resources so that students may start planning early.

The Tufts Career Center is the primary home of career-related resources at Tufts. The Career Center is open to all Tufts students and alumni. The Career Center hosts networking events, career fairs, interview workshops, information sessions, and more. Students also have the opportunity to meet one-on-one with an advisor to discuss their personal career goals.

The IR Program strives to provide additional support for students' career exploration and development through a number of avenues. These include access to career guides on various international relations career paths, network building with International Relations alumni, and job and internship postings in the IR Weekly email. The IR Program has also compiled information on graduate study in international relations, which can be found on the Academics page on the IR website.

Additionally, your IR Core Faculty advisor, other members of the IR Core Faculty, and the IR Program Staff may be able to provide additional insights and ideas about careers in international affairs.

Alumni Networking

International Relations Program Alumni Career Symposium

During those academic years when IR is not co-hosting the biannual multi-disciplinary career symposium organized by the Tufts Career Center, the IR Program hosts its own IR Alumni Career Symposium. The event brings Tufts alumni back to campus to share their experiences and to network with current students and each other. The symposium complements the IR Program's alumni career webinars and "lunch and learn" events held throughout the academic year. For more information, please email internationalrelations@tufts.edu.

LinkedIn

Alumni and current IR students may request to join the Tufts International Relations Program LinkedIn group. The purpose of the Tufts International Relations Program group is to build a network for you to connect with other alumni and students, to keep informed about the IR Program, and to learn about opportunities of interest to you around the world.

Tufts Alumni Online Community

The Tufts Alumni Online Community fosters networking for participants at all levels of work experience. The new community will allow you to network with alumni in your field, hear about upcoming events in your area, and utilize library databases. Login or create your account.
