BA in Community Health
Program Requirements and Policies
- Community Health majors are required to completed 12 courses.
- Pass/Fail: No course submitted for credit in the major can be taken on a pass/fail basis.
- Academic Standing: All courses submitted for credit in the major must be passed with a C- or better, with the exception of the internship. The internship (CH 140) must be passed with a B- or better.
- Courses in other majors: For students with more than one major, up to 5 courses can count toward both majors.
- Courses from other institutions: It may be possible to count up to three courses taken at other institutions. Courses must be submitted through SIS for transfer of credit approval.
Course Requirements
Seven (7) core courses
- Introduction to Community Health (CH 1)
- Introduction to the US Healthcare System (CH 2)
- Introduction to Global Health (CH 11)
- Community Health Methods (CH 30 or SOC 100)
- Fundamentals of Biostats (CH 116 or approved alternative : BIO 132, CEE 006, CEE 154, EC13, ES 56, BME 141)
- Principles of Epidemiology (CH 114 or CEE 154)
- Community Health Internship (CH 140)*
*Students must successfully complete CH1, CH2, CH30 and CH 116 prior to the internship. Open to second semester juniors and to all seniors.
Five (5) elective courses (must complete a total of 5 courses)*
CH majors are required to select and complete five electives as follows.
- One Intermediate Course in Community Health
- Two CH courses or approved electives from another department
- Two Advanced Seminars
*Students matriculating Fall 2026 (Class of 2030) and beyond, must fulfill a CH Methods Requirement whereby one of the five electives must fall within the approved methods cluster listing. For students matriculating prior to Fall 2026, this is recommended but not required to meet the CH requirements.
