Certificate in Impact and Sustainable Investing (CISI)
If you are exploring this program, you know that the link between sustainability, social justice and investing is growing stronger. Designed specifically to accommodate students who may need flexibility due to professional or personal needs, the program offers you the chance to meaningfully participate in this rapidly emerging field. If this sounds right to you, then you know that the best time to engage is now! Complex issues in climate, ecological sustainability and social justice need to be addressed immediately and, increasingly, there are professional opportunities to do so. Read on if you agree that the time is now, and you want practical skills to engage meaningfully in solution making in Impact and Sustainable Finance!
As these global challenges mount, investors and corporations are increasingly striving to align their products and processes with sustainability and social justice goals. Meanwhile, local communities and advocates for social/racial justice and sustainability are developing innovative solutions that require capital investment. There is a growing need for professionals who have the vision, knowledge and tools to harness the vast potential of the capital marketplace to complement existing and emerging strategies for positive societal and environmental changes. That is where you come in!
Designed for those with an interest in finance, investing, sustainable and just economies and community/global sustainable development, the interdisciplinary certificate in Impact and Sustainable Investing combines coursework in the Department of Urban and Environmental Policy and Planning and the Department of Economics. Students will gain an understanding of opportunities the evolving field of impact investing offers, and the most effective methods and tools for assessing the level of impact that investments are having. The certificate can be completed full-time (1 year) or part-time.
Limited research and teaching assistantship stipends may be available to qualified, enrolled certificate students.
Twelve credits are required to obtain CISI certificate. With the launch in the Fall of 2023, all courses will be offered in a fully online modality, designed specifically for online learners. Certificate students who live in the region can request permission from the program director to attend offerings of comparable, in person courses and apply those credits to the certificate.
