Master's Programs

The Department of Urban and Environmental Policy and Planning offers several degrees and certificates, designed to sharpen the skills of policy and planning professionals working toward inclusive, just, and sustainable communities.

MA in Urban and Environmental Policy and Planning

Our Master of Arts in Urban and Environmental Policy and Planning is a professional degree which prepares students for careers in a wide variety of planning and policy fields. 

MS in Environmental Policy and Planning

Our Master of Science in Environmental Policy and Planning is a professional degree which prepares students for careers in policy, science, and research in the environmental sector

Master of Public Policy

The Master of Public Policy is designed for individuals with at least seven years of significant, relevant professional experience who are interested in expanding their knowledge of public policy. 

MS in Environmental Economics and Urban Planning

This joint degree between UEP and the Department of Economics provides students with the skills and knowledge about public policy and planning issues as well as exposure to the analytical tools of economics.

MS in Environmental Engineering Policy and Planning

This joint degree with UEP and the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) in the School of Engineering prepares environmental professionals who are skilled in both engineering and policy. 

MS in Sustainability

The MS in Sustainability trains future leaders to work in the area of sustainability within a variety of fields and industries, with a focus on just and equitable solutions. 

Dual Degree Programs

We offer dual degrees with UEP's MA program and other departments and schools at Tufts as well as with Boston College. 

Fifth-Year Master’s Degree Program: BA/BS and MA in Urban and Environmental Policy and Planning or MS in Environmental Policy and Planning

The Fifth-Year Master’s Degree Program gives Tufts undergraduate students the opportunity to earn both their bachelor's and master's degree together, usually within 5 years.

Fifth-Year Master’s Degree Program: BA/BS and MS in Sustainability

The Fifth-Year Master of Science in Sustainability (MSS) program provides exceptional undergraduates with the opportunity to earn both an undergraduate degree and an MSS in just five years.
