Freshwater, Coasts, and Oceans
Water is central to urban and environmental policy and planning, from drinking water and sanitation to rivers, wetlands, coasts, and oceans. At UEP, we examine how policy and planning shape water as a scarce natural resource, a human right, a shared public good, a source of ecological life, and a growing source of risk to communities and the built environment. Students interested in freshwater, coastal, and ocean issues can explore questions of sustainability, climate adaptation, environmental justice, infrastructure, governance, and resilience through coursework, research, and applied planning practice.
