Biography
Susan Barahal is the Director of the Art Education program, a graduate program that spans the Tufts Department of Education and School of the Museum of Fine Arts at Tufts University. Her research focus is on how the arts can facilitate and inform teaching and learning across disciplines and content areas. Her work is grounded in the Making Thinking Visible and Artful Thinking projects at Project Zero at the Harvard University Graduate School of Education. Susan's recent research explores the empathic responses that art objects evoke in viewers.
Susan holds Massachusetts teacher license in Visual Art (K-12) and taught art at the middle and high school grade levels. Susan teaches Field Studies in Art, PK-8 and 5-12 and the Seminar on Student Teaching, PK-8 and 5-12. She is a member of the New England Sculptors Association. Susan holds a Ph.D. in the History of Art & Architecture from Boston University. She also holds a M.Ed. from Boston University and a B.S. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
