Undergraduate Programs

Political Science students are committed to enhancing the understanding of our domestic and international political landscape through the four subfields of American Politics, Comparative Politics, International Relations, Political Theory and Philosophy. In the Tufts Department of Political Science, undergraduate students take courses on a broad range of topics in national and international politics from acclaimed faculty at the top of their field. We offer both a major and minor in Political Science, which place a strong emphasis on developing analytical research skills.

In addition to the political science department course offerings, undergraduates can sometimes go outside of the department to selected Tufts programs and receive political science credit for approved courses. Course work can also extend beyond our campus through the Tufts in Washington program and approved study abroad programs.

Advanced students also can enroll with the instructor's permission in graduate courses at the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy. A limited number of Political Science majors are accepted into a five year BA-MA program with the Fletcher School to which students apply during their junior year.

Attention Seniors:

Major and minor checklists for graduating seniors this year can be completed digitally. Please fill out the form-fillable PDF checklist and use a digital signature, then send to your major advisor to sign (Major Checklists only), and to Jimmy Pavlick to save.

BA in Political Science

Students in the BA in Political Science build a strong foundation in the field by taking courses in each of the four subfields that serve as cornerstones of the discipline.

Minor in Political Science

Students in the Minor in Political Science choose an area of concentration around which they build their coursework.
