Biography

Meredith McLain received her Ph.D. from Vanderbilt University in 2023 and her B.A. from the University of North Carolina- Asheville in 2018. Her research and courses focus on presidential power, policymaking, and bureaucratic politics. Specifically, her research examines how presidents strategically use unilateral actions to control the bureaucracy, while avoiding sanctions from Congress, the public, and the courts. She teaches Introduction to American Politics, The American Presidency and Executive Branch, and Policymaking Under Separation of Powers among others.
