Funding Opportunities

Religion majors and minors may apply for department funding to help defray the costs of research and conference related travel and expenses.

Proposals for up to $500 will be awarded on a rolling basis each academic year. Students should submit their applications using the Student Funding application form.

Awardees will be asked to submit a brief final report to the department after funded activities have concluded. This information may be shared on the department website, newsletter, and other departmental communications.

  • Anne E. Borghesani Memorial Prize
    A prize awarded to second semester sophomores or juniors who undertake a research project, internship, volunteer activity or plan of study in any field involving international issues. The prize encourages personal growth and independence, while increasing understanding of all people and encouraging commitment to the world community.

  • The Career Center Summer Internship Grants
    The grant funds 45-50 undergraduate students each summer doing unpaid internships for a minimum of 300 hours. These funds offer students the opportunity to explore career fields and gain experience. Selected students will receive $4,500. Students must secure an internship prior to the deadlines.

  • Laidlaw Scholars Program
    This program is a two-year independent research program that supports students to pursue independent research projects with a faculty member over the course of two consecutive summers for six weeks per summer. Laidlaw Scholars also participate in leadership development training and become part of a broader community of scholars at Durham University, the University of Oxford, the University of St. Andrews, the University of York, the University of Leeds, and the University College London. Students can apply in their first or second year, and can apply either individually or as part of a team working on a common research question.

  • Summer Scholars Program
    A university-wide initiative that offers research apprenticeships with faculty/clinical mentors to motivated Tufts undergraduates.

    Students may request funding for senior theses and for other proposals emphasizing original research that is directly supervised by a Tufts faculty member.
