The School of Arts and Sciences is committed to intellectual and artistic engagement through a liberal arts and sciences tradition that prepares all of our students for a lifetime of learning. Tufts fosters a culture of academic rigor and inspired scholarship in a range of fields, from life sciences to literature, with a particular focus on encouraging students to engage in interdisciplinary learning. Our students are problem solvers and entrepreneurs, figuring out solutions for the challenges ahead. The university strives to foster personal relationships between students and faculty, encouraging individual attention in both the classroom and research settings.

In the School of Arts and Sciences, we offer three undergraduate programs:

  • BA/BS Students choose their areas of focus from over 90 undergraduate majors and minors and fulfill distribution requirements in humanities, social sciences, the arts, natural sciences, and mathematics.
  • BFA This program combines an in-depth, rigorous liberal arts and sciences education with intensive studio arts training at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts at Tufts University.
  • Combined Degree (BFA + BA/BS) with SMFA Graduates of the combined degree program receive two degrees within five years: a Bachelor of Fine Arts or a Bachelor of Science.

The Graduate School of Arts and Sciences gives Tufts undergraduates the opportunity to earn both their bachelor’s and master’s degrees together, usually with 5 years. Visit our Combined Degree with the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences page to learn more and view the programs offered.
