Undergraduate Programs

The Department of Sociology provides students with a strong foundation in the discipline, introducing them to the diverse theories, perspectives, and research methods sociologists use to understand the social world. Our undergraduate students explore a broad range of topics, including social interactions, institutions, identities, inequalities, social change, and the forces that shape communities and societies. Through critical and comparative analysis, students develop the ability to understand complex social problems, evaluate evidence, and imagine alternative visions of society.

Sociology majors graduate with highly developed research, analytical, and critical thinking skills that prepare them for graduate and professional school and for careers in government, nonprofit organizations, business, law, communications, research, and many other fields. The department also offers a minor in Legal Studies, providing students with an interdisciplinary foundation for understanding law, legal institutions, and the relationship between law and society.
