Justin Packs Memorial Internship
Justin Packs graduated from Tufts summa cum laude in May 2023, having majored in Applied Environmental Studies (Sustainability, Policy, and Equity track) and minored in Urban Studies. Justin was committed to working to create a more viable world with increased economic justice, climate preservation and innovation, and ocean conservation as well as food availability and sustainability.
Justin worked at Massachusetts Clean Energy Center from July 2023 until July 2024. He was committed to MassCEC’s work and mission in his role as, first, a Buildings Decarbonization Fellow and, subsequently, a Buildings Team Program Administrator. He is remembered by his MassCEC colleagues as “kind and ambitious, sharply smart and funny, someone that we all liked working with, and a caring friend.” Justin was thrilled and blossoming in his post-college work at Massachusetts CEC.
Reflecting on why he came to MassCEC, Justin said, “I was considering positions at research institutes focused on social and environmental issues, such as housing and climate, but the programmatic work at MassCEC was particularly exciting because it felt closer to the ground. Working with residents to reduce carbon emissions felt like a nice opportunity to combine my community engagement, education and outreach background with my passion for combatting climate change.”
At MassCEC, Justin will be remembered for his kindness, ambition, intelligence, humor, and as a caring friend beloved by all. We honor him for his exceptional and deeply impactful work at MassCEC. Justin was a dedicated and passionate public servant. In his year on the High-Performance Buildings team he made significant contributions to the goal of an equitable climate transition and made deep connections with many at MassCEC and beyond.
This internship honors Justin’s values and goals by providing others with an opportunity to explore a career in clean energy, climatetech, and public service.
