Study Abroad

International Relations majors who choose to study abroad should follow the guidelines listed below. 

  • No more than 3 courses taken abroad may be applied toward the IR major requirements (only 1 of which can be applied toward the IR Core requirements). 
  • There is no limit on the number of language courses taken abroad for the IR language requirement. 
  • Courses taken at Tufts and Non-Tufts Programs must be approved by the IR Program in order to be used to fulfill IR requirements.   • Internships, internship courses, or independent study courses taken during a study abroad program are not eligible for IR major credit. 

Transfer of Credit Process for Study Abroad

If you are planning to study abroad, please begin the Transfer of Credit Process as soon as possible. Students are strongly encouraged to start the approval process before they enroll in the course. Learn more about IR Transfer of Credit.
