The Data Analytics program's advisory board provides the program with critical input and apprises leadership of current trends in Data Analytics spaces. The board advises on the curriculum to ensure that the program includes relevant courses in the practical skills that are sought after in the field. The board meets twice a semester to share networking opportunities, career development advice, and insight on what Data Analytics supervisors are looking for in their candidate pool. They invite an open line of communication with Data Analytics students looking for resources within their fields.
Director of Data Science and AI, Anthem
Dr. Shaheen Gauher is a Data Scientist. She helps businesses build and deploy predictive solutions to best leverage their data and empowers businesses to achieve more. At CVS Health, Shaheen is working towards developing AI enabled delivery of healthcare to make the healthcare system more efficient and effective. Before that, Shaheen worked at Microsoft where she developed Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning tools to create real world solutions for enterprises across verticals both on premise and in cloud. She is a climate scientist and physicist by training. For her PhD she studied the impact of anthropogenic pollution on climate using satellite data. Her academic experience has strongly shaped her views on climate change and STEM education.
Director of Strategy and Executive Reporting | Bristol Myers Squibb (BMS)
Ari Hamalian is the Director of Strategy and Executive Reporting at BMS and part of the Cyber and Data Enablement (CDE) organization. He has spent over 17 years across various industry and consulting sectors. His experience have included delivering leading edge data solutions and machine intelligence to clients and helping Fortune 500 companies understand and mitigate their cyber security risk exposure and reduce their attack surface. In his current role, Ari works closely with the Chief Information Security and Data Officer and BMS leadership team to develop, implement and measure an integrated Cyber and Data Enablement strategy. Ari holds BS degrees in Mechanical and Biomedical Engineering from Tufts University, an MS degree in Systems Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania, and an MBA from the Isenberg School of Management.
Research Science Manager, Alexa Entertainment Machine Learning at Amazon
Lisa leads a team of research scientists at Amazon who develop Alexa's ability to interpret spoken language. Her team focuses on building models that intelligently process requests for entertainment. Prior to joining Amazon, Lisa built and led a data science capability at Akamai Technologies where her work spanned several disciplines, including developing machine learning algorithms for anomaly detection, root cause analyses, and traffic forecasting. In addition to experience in data science and the internet sector, Lisa worked for a time applying cognitive science principles in advertising and in education. Lisa holds a BA in math from Dartmouth and a PhD in cognitive science from CMU, where she developed intelligent models of mathematical cognition.
Data Scientist, GSK
Yusuf works as a data scientist in drug discovery research at GlaxoSmithKline in Cambridge, MA. Currently, his main focus is in putting together a computer vision platform with the potential to significantly impact how new medicines are discovered. Yusuf has spent the past three years in the Boston area building computational and machine learning systems that fit a healthcare context. He was previously employed at a bio-tech firm, Merrimack, and before that received his MS in Mechanical Engineering from Carnegie Mellon in 2015.
Data Science and Strategy Consultant
Andrew Therriault has spent the past decade building and leading data science programs for organizations across the political, nonprofit, government, and technology sectors. He founded the Democratic National Committee's data science team in 2014, was appointed the City of Boston's first Chief Data Officer in 2016, and led a data science team at Facebook working to optimize their technology infrastructure. Therriault is a frequent speaker on civic technology and data science, and is the author of Data and Democracy: How Political Data Science is Shaping the 2016 Elections (O'Reilly Media). He received his doctorate in political science from New York University in 2011. Based in Boston, Therriault currently works as a data science and strategy consultant for government and political clients and teaches data science at Harvard University.
