The 49th Annual Student Academy Awards Competition
The Student Academy Awards is an international student film competition, established in 1972. Each year, college and university film students from all over the world compete for awards and cash grants, with films being judged in the following categories: Animation, Documentary, Live Action Narrative and Alternative/Experimental. Past Student Academy Award winners have gone on to win 11 Oscars, and receive 63 Oscar nominations. Past SAA winners include Pete Docter, Robert Zemeckis, Patricia Riggen, Cary Joji Fukunaga, Patricia Cardoso and Spike Lee. Details and registration can be found on the SAA website. The deadline for submitting a film for consideration is June 1, 2022.

It’s busy all get out for productions this summer, so it’s a great opportunity to gain skills and get a jump on things. Registration Required.
Red Rose Film Festival (RRFF)
Accepting submissions for short films and short documentaries 20 minutes or less! Waive the fee for student films with the code “FuturePerspectives”. (photo of college ID required). Submission information can be found on the Red Rose Film Festival website or through FilmFreeway. Prize for Best Student Film is $500. Accepting until August 1 (late submission deadline).
Mystic Film Festival
Mystic Film Festival is now accepting submissions for its 5th edition! The festival includes a student film category offering significantly discounted submission fees.
The festival will showcase independent feature length and short form narrative films and documentaries from all over the world, as well as screenings of student films. Student films can be narrative or documentary, feature or short. The filmmaker must be/must have been enrolled at a college/university/school during production of the film being submitted to be entered into the student film category. Please provide a student ID with submission.
Mystic Film Festival is additionally offering a screenplay competition, which is in its 3rd year. The grand prize winner and four top finalists will get an ISAconnect membership and a meeting with a literary manager, who will provide feedback on the script and possible representation.
