Minor in Chinese

The Minor in Chinese is intended for students wishing to apply their training in Chinese to a broad range of professional and academic pursuits.

Questions about the minor can be addressed to Professor Xueping Zhong, Chinese Program Director.

Program Requirements and Policies

  • Six courses are required for the Minor in Chinese.
  • Students must receive a grade of C or above for it to count towards the minor.
  • Only one literature/culture course taken at a non-Tufts program will be accepted toward the minor. Students going abroad for non-Tufts programs should discuss with the Chinese Program’s director, prior to their departure, whether or not a course will be accepted as a literature/culture course after they return from studying abroad.
  • Asian Studies (Chinese) majors are thus advised that since Chinese 21,22, 121, and 122 count towards their major, they need to choose within the following parameters: i/ 2-4 language courses from 121-128, ii/ 4-2 lit/culture courses that are not used to fulfill their major requirements.
  • Students should declare their intention to minor no later than the spring semester of their junior year. Questions about the Chinese minor can be addressed to Professor Xueping Zhong.
