Biography

Dr. Gopinath completed her graduate training in Dr. Monack's laboratory in Stanford University where she worked on a mouse model of Salmonella transmission, studying the immune responses of asymptomatic supershedders. She carried out her postdoctoral work in Dr. Iwasaki's group at Yale University where she worked on vaginal immunity to genital herpes infections and uncovered a surprising antiviral effect of commonly used antibiotics. In her lab, she directs a research group investigating the effect of the vaginal microbiome on host immunity and resistance to sexually transmitted infections with the goal of developing microbiome-informed therapeutics and vaccine approaches.
