Program Requirements and Policies
- The BA in International Literary & Cultural Studies – German requires ten courses in all while achieving foreign language proficiency at the eighth semester (122 level or equivalent).
- Students should take advantage of our many language/culture courses taught solely in German (GER 21, 22, 34, 44, 61, 62 and varying 100-level literature/culture courses).
Course Requirements
- Language Requirement
Four language courses up to the eighth semester (122 level or equivalent), above level 4. Depending on level at entry, higher level language or culture courses can be substituted in consultation with advisor.
- Culture Requirement
Four literature/culture courses taught in the ILCS department including GER 182 and at least two other German literature/culture courses (either from the German Program at Tufts [GER 44, 61, 64, 91, or courses in English, preferably in the 100-level with readings in German], Tufts-in-Tübingen, or other program abroad [to be approved]).
- Related Course
One additional culture course taught in the ILCS department or one course in a related-field (area-related or thematic) taken at Tufts or through another program, including Tufts-in- Tübingen. Must be approved by your advisor in advance.
- One Integrative Capstone Course
ILCS 197 Thinking Beyond Frontiers: ILCS Senior Colloquium (taught in the fall).
