Undergraduate Programs
Welcome from the Director of Undergraduate Studies
Tufts provides an extraordinarily vibrant community for students looking to explore music in all its forms. Our program combines the resources of a small conservatory with the strengths and rigors of a world-renowned scholarly and performance faculty. The Music department offers programs of study across the full diversity of musical styles and modes of inquiry, and undergraduates can find their musical voices through classes in composition, performance, theory, history, ethnomusicology, technology, and cultural studies. Our goal to be inclusive, comprehensive, and connected impacts everything we do. We want all students to feel welcome and challenged when they participate in our program.
The Music department is the heart of the Tufts musical culture. The Granoff Music Center is a jewel of the campus, with beautiful performance spaces, classrooms, and the spectacular Distler Hall. Attached to the Granoff Center is the Lilly Music Library, which possesses a wonderful collection of print and digital resources and serves as a cherished study location for many students. Course offerings in the department range from one-on-one private lessons to intimate seminars to large ensembles. Our graduates go on to careers in music production, composition, business, academia, and more. The Music Department has deep connections to other disciplines ranging from Africana Studies to Film Studies to Psychology.
No matter your interests or prior experience, the Music Department has something to offer you. Prospective students, please contact the Music Department Office or the Office of Admissions with any further questions about our programs or application process. Admitted students and current undergraduates, please contact our Director of Undergraduate Studies, Melinda Latour.
