Tufts Music Welcomes Jeremy Eichler

Former 'Boston Globe' Chief Classical Critic joins the Tufts Music Faculty
Jeremy Eichler

We are delighted that Jeremy Eichler is joining the Department of Music as Assistant Professor! He was hired through a special initiative involving the department and the office of the Dean of Arts and Sciences, with initial support from a new endowment from the Cummings Foundation in honor of our long-time faculty member John McCann. Faculty from across A&S and the Center for the Humanities at Tufts participated in the hiring process.

Eichler's book Time's Echo: The Second World War, the Holocaust, and the Music of Remembrance (Knopf 2023) is making a global impact, along with his 18 years as the Chief Classical Critic of the Boston Globe

Eichler will be an eloquent voice for expanding the reach and impact of public humanities at Tufts, building on the already significant efforts and commitment to public facing scholarship and creative work in the department and the school. This fall he will be teaching "Writing about Music," open to any students with an interest in developing their writing skills about any kind of music. In the future he will be developing new cross-listed courses that engage with his broad interests in History, English, German Studies, Judaic Studies, and Holocaust Studies.
