Minor in Child Study and Human Development
The Department of Child Study and Human Development offers a minor in CHSD for students who have an interest in careers working with diverse children, their families, and communities, but whose primary focus might be in another discipline or major.
Program Requirements and Policies
- Five courses are required for the undergraduate minor in Child Study and Human Development.
- No more than two courses used for any minor, regardless of the number of semester hours they carry, may be used toward a major or another minor. You may double count up to two courses for the CSHD minor and any other requirement, including foundation, distribution, major or other minor” and then the rest of the bullet point language as exists should remain.
- The CSHD minor requires a total of 15 credits.
Course Requirements
One course from among the following foundational courses:
- CSHD 1: Introduction to Child Study and Human Development
- CSHD 151: Intellectual Development
- CSHD 61 or 161: Personal-Social Development
- CSHD 62: Childhood Across Cultures
- CSHD 155: The Young Child's Development of Language
The remaining four (4) courses must be CSHD (or CSHD cross-listed) courses. Courses taken outside the CSHD offerings will not be counted toward the CSHD minor. Students may take up to two independent study courses (CSHD 141) to count toward the CSHD minor.
When completing the CSHD minor, students must download and fill out the CSHD Minor Checklist Form and send it to julie.dobrow@tufts.edu for review, approval, and signature. Please note: you must download the CSHD Minor Checklist fillable pdf form from the CSHD website to your computer, include all the courses you intend to count for the minor (even if you are currently enrolled in those courses), and email the pdf CSHD Minor Checklist form to Professor Dobrow. Only a pdf form will be accepted.
