Seminars
The Department of Physics and Astronomy hosts regular seminars for various research clusters, as well as special events. Check our calendar for currently scheduled seminars and events, or the links below for information about specific seminars.
Astronomy Lunch Seminar
The Astronomy group at Tufts University hosts this series of seminars presented by faculty, postdoctoral researchers, and senior graduate students from other universities and astronomy departments in the Boston area. Topics range across many areas of astronomy and astrophysics. The seminar generally meets on Fridays at 12 pm in Room 316 of the Collaborative Learning and Innovation Complex (CLIC) at 574 Boston Avenue, but please check the More Info link for specific details. If you would like to present your research work in this venue, please don't hesitate to email Kumail Zaidi.
Astronomy Paper Discussion
The Astronomy group, jointly with the Cosmology group at Tufts University, hosts this weekly event to foster paper discussion within the Astronomy and Cosmology groups at Tufts. Two papers are selected from the arXiv and briefly presented and discussed. Undergraduate and graduate students, postdocs, and faculty are all invited to attend. We meet every Monday from 4:10 - 5:00 pm in Room 310 of the Collaborative Learning and Innovation Complex (CLIC) at 574 Boston Avenue.
AstroPh Fast & Furious
The Astronomy group meets once a week to browse and talk about the most interesting papers which have recently appeared on the arXiv. Each member of the astronomy group briefly (5 minutes) presents a paper. We meet every Wednesday at 3:30 pm for half an hour in Room 310 of the Collaborative Learning and Innovation Complex (CLIC) at 574 Boston Avenue. Everyone's welcome!
Condensed Matter Seminar
**on hold until further notice**
The condensed matter seminar series brings together professors, graduate students, and undergrads interested in condensed matter physics on a biweekly basis. We invite faculty, postdocs, and advanced graduate students from the greater Boston area to come in, present their research, and chat with their peers here at Tufts. Speakers and attendees cover a range of disciplines including physics, chemistry, biophysics, engineering, and applied mathematics.
High Energy Physics Seminar
**on hold until further notice**
The monthly High Energy Physics seminar series at Tufts follows recent experimental theoretical developments in neutrino, collider, and other particle physics. Speakers are drawn predominantly from universities in the greater Boston area with occasional visitors from further afield.
Joint Tufts/MIT Cosmology Seminar
This seminar is jointly hosted by the Cosmology groups at Tufts University and MIT and is organized by Alan Guth at MIT and Alex Vilenkin at Tufts. The seminar is held on Tuesday afternoons at 2:30pm and rotates weekly between MIT and Tufts. Please check the Seminar Info link below for the specific locations of each talk. Light refreshments are served at 2:00pm.
Lunchtime Cosmology Series
The Tufts Institute of Cosmology regularly holds seminars on Thursdays at 1:30 pm.
